Read more about my new food column for the Flathead Beacon at TwiceasTasty.com.
In the words of Cab Calloway, “Everybody eats when they come to my house.” As I mentioned when sharing my cover story in last week’s blog post, I’ve joined one of our local newspapers, the Flathead Beacon, as a food columnist. My first Twice as Tasty column was published this week under a headline from Mr. Hi-De-Ho’s swinging song. You can find it in this week’s print edition or read it online here.

I will be talking about all things pickling in a free session at the Columbia Falls Library. I’ll explain the science behind quick, refrigerator, fermented, and shelf-stable pickles and demonstrate how to make refrigerator pickles. The first 15 participants who bring a clean 16 oz wide-mouth jar with air-tight lid will get to fill it with vegetables and brine at the end of our workshop, so arrive early! More details are available here.

I’m excited to be teaching several cooking workshops as part of FVCC’s Continuing Education program this fall, from making kimchi to eating well on your outdoor adventures. Registration is open, and courses are filling up quickly! Learn more and register here.

Zucchini cake always seemed like a sneaky mom move when I was a kid, but it's a brilliant use for an overzealous gardener. Keep it simple as a pan cake sprinkled with powdered sugar for lunchboxes, or jazz it up as a Bundt cake with ganache and nuts, like the photo in this week's @flatheadbeacon column. https://flatheadbeacon.com/2026/09/10/chocolate-zucchini-cake/ #newarticle #zucchini #zucchinicake #zucchinirecipes #cakerecipe #easycake #snackcake #twiceastastyblog #twiceastasty I love the savory pancake recipe in my latest @flatheadbeacon column wrapped around and topped with goat cheese: https://flatheadbeacon.com/2026/09/03/grilled-pepper-pancakes-with-goat-cheese/ But the sweet grilled peppers that form its core flavor adapt well to many other pairings. For some of my favorite tangy fillings, check out the blog too. #newarticle #grilled #grilledpeppers #savorypancakes #pancakesfordinner #sweetpeppers #goatcheese #twiceastastyblog #twiceastasty
